Case Study #5
Project:

Hells Gates Dam, North QLD

Client:
Project Dates: Nov 2020
Scope:

Seismic investigation for the characterisation of rock, weathering profile, and potential faulting to assist in the assessment of foundation construction to facilitate the design of the planned Dam and Weirs.

This was carried out using explosive seismic source and sledgehammer at the weirs site.

Depth of investigation up to 80m.

The investigation was carried out in particularly challenging terrain, e.g., very steep slopes (access limitation), river crossing and very remote location with no communication. These required careful planning and efficient liaison with the client representative, especially in regards with the coordination of the explosive crew and geotechnical personnel and drilling.

Very remote location requiring accommodation in fly camp and rigorous management of health and safety and logistics.
