Case Study #4
Project:

Dungowan Dam, Tamworth, NSW; Mole Creek Dam, Tenterfield, NSW

Client:
Project Dates: Dungowan Dam, Tamworth, NSW: Stage 2: May 2020 | Stage 4: Jul 2020 - Stage 6: Jul 2021
Mole Creek Dam, Tenterfield, NSW: Stage 1: Apr 2020
Scope:

Seismic investigation for the characterisation of rock, weathering profile, and potential faulting to assist in the assessment of foundation construction, foot slope conditions and fault structure to facilitate the design of the planned Dams.

This was carried out using a Seismic Weight Drop (SWD) system and conventional sledgehammer. Depth of investigation up to 70m.

The investigation was carried out in particularly challenging terrain, e.g., very steep slopes (access limitation), river crossing and remote location (limited communication). These required a careful and rigorous management of health and safety, logistics and technical implementation.

The project consisted of about 8km of seismic, 5km during the feasibility study stage and 3km during the detailed design stage. Multiple 1D MASW sounding locations for Vs30 analysis. Also, an additional 12km of GPR was carried out for the proposed pipeline design.
