Case Study #34
Project:

Mount James Wind Farm, Porcupine, QLD

Client:
Project Dates: July 2023
Scope:

Land geophysical investigation to assist in the characterisation of rock and weathering profile for Wind Turbine foundations at mt. James Wind Farm.
The objective of this geophysical investigation was to provide subsurface information including P-waves distributions, S-waves soundings and Vs30 results.
The land geophysical investigation consisted of 15 wind turbine locations spread over approx. 500 square km.
The initial geophysical data acquisition, processing and interpretation was carried out without prior geotechnical/geological knowledge. However, the seismic results showed large variations between grouped soundings, which were separated in 3 main settings. These were confirmed with high accuracies once the geotechnical/geological information were integrated with the geophysical results, confirming seismic conditions varying as expected with the various geological setting across the sites, i.e., Colluvial and Residual deposits, Basalt and Sandstone.
